As you can see in the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is really working on introducing a username feature within the app's settings: in particular, a section dedicated to this feature will be available in WhatsApp Settings > Profile. With the ability to choose a username, WhatsApp users will have the opportunity to add another layer of privacy to their accounts. This means that instead of relying solely on phone numbers to identify contacts, users will be able to opt for a unique and easy-to-remember username: By allowing users to choose usernames, WhatsApp can offer users the Possibility to communicate with other people by entering a username within the application, without knowing their phone numbers.
